Illawarra Mercury 11/7/1924 said Troop to start shortly. South Coast Times 21/11/1924 said 1st meeting held 17/11/1924 at Rifle Club hall with J Griffin SM. Local shop keeper J Fairley organised starting of Troop. 1925 SC Annual report 1925 said application in hand for Troop. (Info below from notes at MC by Flora Jackson 1st CL). Kiama Cubs/Scouts held concert at Dapto on 19/7/1932 to raise funds to start Troop and at concert decided to hold meeting on 25/7/1932 to start Troop. 2nd meeting held early August 1932 to restart Group and 23 boys enrolled. South Coast Times 5/8/1932 said 2 Patrols started and had instruction from DSM Sykes, meeting to be held at Rifle Club on 8/8/1932 re appointment of CM. First meetings of Troop/Pack held in August (Cubs 19th) in Church of England hall with Tom Oysten SM (GSM 1936- WW2)/ Miss Flora MacDonald CM (she resigned 1937). Flora’s sister Ida ACM 1932-36 / Pack/ Group registered 10/10/1932, Troop 19/10/1932. South Coast list registrations said Pack/Troop registration application 12/9/1932. First Investitures on 24/9/1932 at St Lukes Hall (SCT 30/9/1932). First Leaders registered August 1932. Rev T Gee SM resigned in 1939. Raymond Webb ACM 1934-52, then SM became CM early 1955. Several boys went to 1934 Jamboree. South Coast Annual report 1944 said land donated by Miss E Harris. Hall was former army hut moved from Mt St Thomas, donated by Miss Ethel Haynes of West Dapto and opened in October 1953. 1951 Area Annual report said about to start construction/ 1953 report said under construction.
Attended 1934 Area Challenge Flag camp. Troop deregistered 1946, reregistered 1948.
Circa 1958 split boys north of Baan Baan St to 1st Dapto, south of that Street to 2nd Dapto.

SC annual reports said won ‘Pax” cub flag in 1947, 2nd in 1940, 3rd in 1960. 1955 Area Annual report said hall about to be extended, 1964 report said ready to start building. New hall (28 Baan Baan St) officially opened 22/10/1966 and was project of Dapto Apex (volunteer labour + money).
Rovers started 30/6/1941, registered 16/10/1941/ existed 1942 when Robert Trevethan appointed RSL (till 1947). Senior Troop registered 20/10/1949 with B Smith ASM(S). Seniors did not reregister in 1954. Seniors reregistered 25/8/1960. Venturers went into recess September 2003.

Boy Scouts
“DAPTO MEETING A well-attended meeting of boys and adults was held at the Rifle Club Rooms, Dapto, on Monday night last, with the object of forming a Group of Boy Scouts at Dapto. The District Commissioner, Mr. C. F. T. Jackson, presided and after addresses on Scouting by the District Scoutmaster, Mr. J. A. Sykes, Cubbing by the A.D.C. for Wolf Cubs Mr. W. Kinersley, and the work of the Group Committee and Scouting generally by Assistant District Commissioner S. H. Neal, it was resolved by those present to form a Group Committee, and Rev. R. Chappel was elected president, and Mr. W. Brown, Secretary pro. tem.
Mr. T. Oyston was unanimously recommended as Scoutmaster of the newly formed Troop. Fourteen boys were enrolled and the first meeting will be held on Saturday next, at St. Luke's Hall at 2.30 p.m. The next meeting of the Group Committee will be held on Monday, August 8th, at 7 p.m.”
