South Coast Annual Report 1925 said application received for Troop, 30/6/1926 report says Troop started 28/8/1925 and at time of report Mr Cusack & Mr Gillam pending appointment as SMs. Not listed in 1929 SC Annual report.
South Coast Register (SCR) 23/5/1930 said a number of Berry boys met at Council Chambers on 21/5/1930 to inaugurate Troop. 1930 SC Annual report says Troop restarted 21/5/1930 / T Tribe SM. 8 boys joined up with T Tribe as SM and SM asked Council for use of Agricultural Hall for Scout meetings. On 25/6/1930 1st 5 Scouts invested, and meeting held to form Group Committee. In October 1930 2 new Scouts joined making 8 in Troop, Mr G Skinner to form Cubs and Group asked Council for free use of Agricultural hall instead of 2s 6d per night- Council said would charge and then refund at end of year. Pack started 22/12/1930 with G Skinner CM, Group committee formed 1/10/1930, Rover “club” started 24/6/31 with M Reid as chairman. Troop registered 16/9/1930, Pack 17/1/1931, Crew 23/8/1932, met at Agricultural Hall.
Held public campfire at Showground for Scout week. In 1931 1 Cub and 12 Scouts went to Sydney for Baden Powell’s visit. South Coast Register 31/7/1931 said Rover “club” formed at Berry and that proposed ACM Mr A Wood had serious accident at Kiama and was in hospital but hoped to be well enough to start as ACM soon.
1933 SC Ann report says Crew formed 4/7/1932 with M Reid ARSL and group had 13 Cubs, 18 Scouts, 6 Rovers & 6 Leaders. In 1934 E Ford ASM became SM, in 1937 R Evans GSM resigned. Had Cubs, Scouts, Rovers in 1935. In 1935 Cubs 2nd at Pax Flag competition. Group deregistered 1938 as scouters left area (had 2 Cubs/11 Scouts/5 Rovers/2 Leaders but being reformed under SM T Tribe, restarted 5/8/1938 with 9 Scouts but deregistered 1939 as “interest not maintained”. Had 9 Cubs/13 Scouts/10 Rovers/4 Leaders in 1936, 2 Cubs/11 Scouts/5 Rovers/2 Leaders in 1937. In 1940 went to District Swimming Carnival at Thirroul and took part in Berry Anzac Day Service.
Notes about CFT “Chief” Jackson in St V de Paul archives said Berry Group opened 1932 and on that occasion a bridge was built by Scouts with ribbon for ’Chief’ to cut and 1 boy did a “De Groote” act. In 1982 scene reenacted for 50th anniversary of Group and same boy was present. This event was opening of Log Cabin / bridge at group campsite, Camp site donated by JD Williams and cabin built by boys under supervision of SM T Tribe. Pack reregistered November 1960 with M Mullen CM/ Troop registered October 1961 with R Bragg SM. SC Annual report 1965 said Troop not functioning but hoping to revive. Troop deregistered June 1965 / reregistered March 1969 with B Clarke SM. Senior Troop registered March 1972 with D MacBeth SSL. Group reregistered 14/5/1990 with Neville Strong CSL 1990-94, Peter Newbury SL 1990-92.
Had 14 members in 1961, 47 in 1962, 31 in 1963, 22 in 1964, 18 in 1965, 11 in 1966, 12 in 1967,15 in 1968, 46 in 1969, 53 in 1970, 44 in 1971, 49 in 1972, 54 in 1973, 6 Cubs/5 Scouts/0 Leaders in 1987, 6 Youth/3 Leaders in 1989, 34 Youth/4 Leaders in 1990, 4 Joeys/20 Cubs/10 Scouts/6 Leaders in 1991, 13 Cubs/11 Scouts/6 Leaders in 1992.
